The CAFÉ TA Center hosted a webinar on how Recovery Cafés can support recovery, build community, and counter isolation, on Wednesday, June 28th at 3:00 EDT.
US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, recently released a report on the impact of loneliness and isolation on physical and emotional well-being, “Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation: The Surgeon General’s Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community.” The report draws connections between isolation, disconnection, suicide, anxiety, stroke, and premature mortality, and emphasizes the need for human connection as being as “essential to survival as food and water.
There are currently 60+ Recovery Cafés that demonstrate the transformative power of community, connection and healing in environments that nurture love, accountability, stewardship, and equity.
Join us as we hear from two people with first-hand knowledge of Recovery Cafés, Jacqueline Conerly, CEO of Recovery Café DC, and Richard Hollett, Division Director of Recovery Support Services & Director of Recovery Café Lowell. Together with these two Recovery Café leaders, we will explore what a Recovery Café is, how it works, and most importantly, how it impacts lives to combat isolation and loneliness and advance healing and recovery.
This webinar is the third in a year-long series of monthly conversations about innovative peer-centered, recovery-focused practices in mental health facilitated by national peer leader, CEO of Promise Resource Network, and 2022 Bazelon Center Innovator of the Year Cherene Caraco.
Throughout the series, Cherene and CAFE TAC will introduce attendees to leaders with lived experience who have launched alternative ways to advance recovery, voice, and healing in their communities. Join us as we learn about innovative approaches, concepts, models and programs throughout the US and become inspired to perhaps launch your own!
